F.A.Q.

How Does This Work?

A Postcard Swap is created each month on the 1st of the month on Elfster. Before the 15th of the month, you sign up for that month’s swap. On the 15th of the month Elfster will draw names, secret-Santa style. Elfster will notify you and tell you that names have been drawn and when you visit the website it will tell you who your draw is. Click the name of the person to find their address. Send your postcard before the end of the month. You will receive a postcard from someone in the swap by the end of the month.

What is Elfster?

Elfster is a secret-Santa website that I’m using for these postcard swaps. Its purpose is to facilitate secret-santa swaps, so there is a wishlist component, but we can ignore that for our purposes. We are using it for it’s name-drawing component.

How many postcards will I send each month?

One.

Should I put the print in an envelope?

You can if you want, but not expected. I personally love getting postcards in the mail. The final product when it arrives is part of the fun, stamps and all.

What happens if I don’t get a postcard?

Unfortunately that happens. Things get lost in the mail. Or the person who is supposed to send something forgets. It’s best to just enjoy the act of giving and not expecting anything in return, then when your postcard arrives it will be a nice surprise. If someone is a repeat offender and not sending cards I can talk to them.

Can I send any type of postcard?

No. We are sending postcards sized prints of our original photography. You can either print your image in a darkroom, have it printed somewhere, or print on inkjet printer. I have ordered postcards of my photography at Moo. I have also purchased postcard backing paper at Amazon.
